IRA M. SCHWARTZ is a Shareholder in the Phoenix office with a practice emphasizing intellectual property law, including copyright, trademark, trade secret, computer and Internet law, and intellectual property litigation. His practice further includes domain name disputes, counseling clients on social media issues, blogging issues, and the related areas of business defamation, unfair competition, drafting and enforcement of confidentiality agreements and restrictive covenants, and rights of privacy and publicity. He has also represented many international clients in their intellectual property matters. Mr. Schwartz also actively serves as a mediator and arbitrator of intellectual property disputes. In addition, he counsels both existing enterprises and startups on all aspects of commercializing new creative and technological products. Mr. Schwartz earned a B.A. from the College of Arts and Sciences and a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He received his J.D. from Washington College of Law at American University in 1985. Mr. Schwartz is licensed in Arizona and Colorado and is admitted before the Ninth and Federal Circuits of the United States Court of Appeals. In addition, he is a Judge Pro Tempore of the Arizona Superior Court. Mr. Schwartz has published several articles and appeared as a speaker on various intellectual property topics before a variety of professional, business, technology, and artistic organizations and associations, both in the U.S. and internationally. He is a past President of the State Bar of Arizona Intellectual Property Section and a member the State Bar of Arizona Business Law Section. He is a also a member of the Intellectual Property Section and the Alternative Dispute Resolution of the American Bar Association and a member of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and the International Technology Law Association.
